Buckets of fun

For those of us who enjoy music, Buckethead holds a special place in our playlists: if not for his rad guitar playing then at least for his insane appearance, Buckethead, as the name suggests, wears a KFC Bucket on his head. For the music lovers who wished they were akin to him, even if they couldn't shred a guitar, they couldn't really pull it off because the KFC Bucket was never really available here. Well that changed on April 7th, with KFC launching its trademark franchise in Bangladesh.

Of course the KFC Bucket is not just to be appreciated for the way weird musicians use it as head gear. It happens to be a very recognizable attribute of the company. The launching ceremony at the Gulshan Branch was celebrated with gusto and quite a few balloons with actress Tinni and actor Hillol gracing the ceremony wearing KFC T-shirts. At the launch both husband and wife exchanged pleasantries along with Akku Chowdhury, Executive Director of Transcom Foods Ltd with the gathered press.

The Bucket will be available from now at all outlets of KFC in the city.

Khazana's "Maha Bhoj"

To welcome and celebrate Pohela Boishakh Khazana restaurant, a treasure of Indian cuisine, is offering their guests a special 'Maha Bhoj''. The meal will highlight West Bengal delicacies.

Chef Ramesh Dhani from the prestigious 5 star deluxe hotel ITC Sonar Luxury Collection, Kolkata, has specially come over to share the taste of Bengal. Some of the mounth-watering dishes will include the likes of Chingri Malai, jumbo prawns stewed in coconut milk, flavoured with cinnamon, cardamom and traditional spices cooked on Dum; Bhetki Machher Paturi, Bhetki fish covered with mustard and turmeric paste and spices, wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed; Mishti Polao, sweet polao rice cooked with cashew, raisins, cardamom, cinnamon and Indian spices; Dak Bungalow Murgir Jhol, the unique fusion of British and Bengali chicken curry which is moderately spiced, etc, etc.

The festival will continue for 10 days starting from Pohela Boishakh.

Pohela Boishakh at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel

In welcoming the Bangla New Year 1416 and highlighting the traditional cuisine of Bangladesh, Dhaka Sheraton Hotel will organize a daylong “Boishakhi Utsab”. The lobby will be decorated with the traditional theme of Bangladeshi culture.

The “Boishakhi Utsab” will kick off on Pohela Boishakh April 14, at Dhaka Sheraton with the first ray of sunlight. There will also be the traditional Pitha, Fuchka and Chatpati at the lobby.

The Utsab will also feature daylong Bangladeshi musical entertainment.

Bithika Restaurant will mark the occasion with a themed buffet breakfast including Luchi, Puri, Khichuri, and Chicken Bhuna. Lunch at Bithika is not out of theme; the names of the mouthwatering Bangladeshi dishes are many including Kachki Chor Chory, Shorisha Elish, Pangash curry, Chingree Korolla Bhaji, Beef with Satkara, Beef Kofta, Deshi Morogh Alo curry, Mutton Tehari, Sajna Dal, Achari Chicken Tikka, Plain Rice and many kind of bharta. Don't forget to savour the desserts from luscious Rossomalai to Barfi, Shahi Tukra.

The Westin Boishakh Festival
For the whole week, beginning 12 April 2009, The Westin, Dhaka will decorate itself with a special Bangladeshi theme, celebrating the arrival of the Bangla New Year 1416.
All Westin Restaurants will also offer traditional Bangladeshi food. The event will conclude on 17 April 2009.

Etc Fashion Exclusives
On 4 April 2009, Etc Fashion Exclusives- the one stop premium shopping destination- organised a fashion show at its Gulshan Avenue outlet.
The show presented international brands along with the Boishakhi collections of renowned local fashion designers. The show displayed the collections of Satyapaul, Olry, Tootli Rahman, Samuel H, Krishna Mehta, Shobha De, Monapaly, Mantra and Nupur's collection.

Boishakh touches Baridhara
On the arrival of Boishakh, Baridhara Society is arranging a day-long program including a cultural show at Baridhara Lake Side Park on 14 April 2009 from 9 am to 11 am.
The show is expected to appeal to different segments of society, in particular the members of diplomatic missions.
Make sure to mark the event as a must-see on the first day of Boishakh.
