spotlight The recently concluded Thai Trade Fair was a blast. Renowned for quality that comes at a wallet friendly price, Thai products are popular not only in Bangladesh but across the globe. Every product, it seemed, came with an added touch of Thai hospitality. The 52 kiosks that made up the Thai Trade Fair 2009 offered myriad products starting from fresh fruits, to cosmetics, clothes, trinkets and pieces for home décor. Ladies' fragrances on sale offered a wide range of choices; floral essence seemed the most popular. The attires, traditional to contemporary - tees, shirts and skirts- showcased Thai style and fashion.
But the biggest product was possibly the food! At Café Bazar, Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, diners had an opportunity to taste not only The secret of Thai cuisine lies in the freshness of the herbs, and precise use of spices. The special Chefs of Café Bazar excelled themselves in bringing out the true flavours of the land. One could start off with spicy seafood salad, spicy chicken salad or my personal favourite spicy beef and shallots with 'thousand island dressing' made of mayonnaise, ketchup, Tabasco and finely chopped vegetables. The soup (no points for guessing) was also tossed with the usual seafood and a whole lot of spice. The main course had plenty on offer - fried cattle fish with chilli, chicken green curry, stir fried vegetable with soy sauce and marinated chicken with mixed herb. Those who craved for beef could help themselves to stir fried beef with oyster sauce. After a fiesta of the heat that emanated from the starters, soup and main course the dessert seemed rather ordinary. But everyone who attended the Thai Food Festival at Sonargaon, arranged in association with Thai Airways and Pan Pacific Bangkok, can testify to the culinary delight that it was. One also has the option to undergo a six months certificate course. Fashion Merchandising, a curriculum ranging from six to twelve months can also be an option.
