Our culture should be promoted
I would like to draw the attention of all to a photo published in TDS on April 13, 2015 where it is seen that the Japanese ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Shiro Sadoshima is calling on the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. The interesting point is the ambassador was wearing panjabi-pajama while meeting the BNP chairperson. Many in our country would not like to give panjabi-pajama a formal status and loath wearing it in formal and official occasions, except when visiting cultural or religious functions. It's indeed good to see a foreigner expressing his love and affection for our culture.
Japan was an imperial power before World War II and became an industrial and trading super giant after the war. Japan became the first Asian country to achieve the status of an industrial super giant through hard labour, western technology and innovation. Same goes with South Korea. My conclusion would be that the growth of these two nations shows positive signs for Bangladesh. Neither Japan nor South Korea is rich in natural resources but they have shown miracles in development. They developed human resources, built industries and traded with the world. My suggestion is we will do better if we maintain a close liaison with Japan and South Korea and follow their strategy. Political stability of course remains the number one condition.
