Laxmipur arson victim dies
A man, who suffered burn injuries in a petrol bomb attack in Laxmipur yesterday, died at a local hospital this morning.
Hailing from Noakhali, Liton, 30, was burnt along with three other passengers as alleged hartal supporters hurled a petrol bomb at a CNG-run three-wheeler in Laxmipur town around 10:00pm yesterday, reports our Noakhali correspondent.
Liton succumbed to his injuries at Laxmipur Sadar Hospital around 7:00am today, hospital sources said.
The other burn victims -- Abdul Karim, 27, Ashek, 28, Sumon, 24, -- were undergoing treatment at the hospital. Condition of Ashek and Sumon are said to be critical.
With Liton’s death, at least 39 people have been killed and over 1,000 injured since January 5, the day the BNP-led 20-party alliance announced an indefinite nationwide blockade. Of the dead, 28 were ordinary people who had no links with politics.
Meanwhile, the alliance is also observing a three-day nationwide hartal since yesterday.
