Laxmipur AL man stabbed, shot dead
Unidentified assailants shot and stabbed to death an activist of Awami League in Laxmipur Sadar upazila early yesterday.
Deceased Ahsan Ullah, 40, was a member of Nandipur ward unit Awami League and son of late Sultan Ahmed in Nandipur village. Quoting Ahsan's relatives, police said Ahsan came under attack when he was returning home after offering special prayers on the occasion of the holy Shab-e-Qadr at Poddar Bazar mosque around 3:00am.
The masked criminals, numbering seven to eight, opened fire on him. They also hacked Ahsan when he fell on the ground, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body in the morning and sent it to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Nasir Ahmed, brother of the deceased, said they were yet to find any motive behind the killing.
Laxmipur Superintendent of Police Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman along with other high police officials visited the spot.
