Workshop on career in law held at SUB
Careers in the bar or the bench are quite lucrative options for law students in Bangladesh. However, a lack of direction makes it difficult for many students to pursue a career in these fields. With this is mind, Jurist Lab from the Department of Law, State University of Bangladesh (SUB) organised a workshop, ‘Road to Judiciary and Advocacy: Dream on’ on November 18, 2017, where the facilitators were students from private universities who are currently enrolled as advocate in the apex court or have been recommended as judges following the 10th Bangladesh Judicial Service (BJS) exam.
Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul, Advisor at the Department of Law, SUB inaugurated the workshop. Lauding the Jurist Lab for such an initiative, he said that this was a great learning opportunity for the students and urged them to implement the takeaways from this workshop in their real lives to pursue a career as a lawyer or judge.
Among others, Mr. Sheikh Md. Muhibbullah, SUB's Lecturer in Law; Advocate Ishrat Hasan; and Shakil Ahmad, Director at 10’s RIOR Law Academy, spoke at the workshop. They eloquently outlined the prospects and challenges of a career in the bar as well as in the bench.
Thereafter, Tanzina Akhter, Ragib Noor and Md. Shihab Uddin - recently recommended judges following the 10th BJS examination spoke individually to the students regarding their experiences and preparation for a career in the judiciary.
Mr. Asgar Ali, Associate Professor of Law, SUB then delivered his closing remarks. He thanked the Jurist Lab and the speakers for such a praiseworthy initiative and told the students to focus on their goals to succeed in their respective careers. SUB's Jurist Lab intends to host more such workshops regularly in near future.
THE EVENT WAS COVERED BY ALI MASHRAF, STUDENT OF LAW AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DHAKA.
