Questions raised as to legality of the NHRC Chairman
On November 20, The Honourable High Court raised questions as to the legality of Kazi Rezaul Hoque as Chariman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for two terms. As the law of NHRC Act 2007 in section 6(3) states that a person cannot be member of NHRC for more than two terms and the chairman was also previously its member. SC upholds 6-month bail of Bodi

Explain why no legal action
Following the incident at Gaibandha, the authorities concerned has been ordered by the HC to explain in two weeks as to why they should not be directed to take legal action against the persons responsible for wrong doing.

Prosecution discharges burden beyond reasonable doubt
On November 21, the prosecution for the sensational Narayanganj 7-murder case has sought death penalty for all of the accused. Path cleared for trial against Destiy Officials
The High court on November 24 had given a go- ahead for the lower courts to resume trial proceedings against Destiny group officials in their money laundering case of Tk 4,200 crore. 3 medical colleges fined
The Supreme Court 27 November fined three private medical colleges Tk 1 crore each for admitting candidates, who did not meet requirements set by the health ministry, in admission tests. The medical colleges are: Mainamoti Medical College, BGC Trust Medical College and Southern Medical College. The apex court ordered the colleges to give half of the fine to Chittagong University (CU), which controls their professional examinations, and to deposit the rest in the name of two charitable organisations by two weeks. A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order following a leave-to-appeal petition filed by CU challenging a High Court order that asked the CU authorities to give registration and admit cards to the students after their petition. - The Daily Star online edition November 27 2016.
SC scraps stay on conviction of Dr Iqbal’s family members
