Law enforcers to provide protection to SSC examinees: IGP
Law enforcers will provide protection to SSC examinees on their way to examination centres, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque said today amid growing concern over the security of the students during the BNP-led 20-party alliance blockade.
“We (law enforcers) will take all necessary measures to ensure security of the students on their way to the exam centres and during the examinations,” the IGP said.
“If the government wants to take examinations, members of all the law enforcement agencies like BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh), Ansar, and elite force will be deployed. We will take steps as per the government decisions,” he said.
The IGP was addressing a press briefing at police headquarters in the morning two days ahead of the SSC Examinations scheduled to begin on February 2.
The police chief also sought cooperation from the public and politicians so that the students can sit for the examinations safely.
“Those who have enforced hartal and blockade should withdraw the programmes considering the future of 15 lakh students,” he said.
“If not, they should keep the SSC examinees out of the purview of hartal and blockade,” he said.
He however said no hartal and blockade are being observed across the country.
“Police will show zero tolerance against the anarchists,” Shahidul Hoque said urging BNP to stop ambush attempts in the name of movements.
Asked whether BNP chief Khaleda Zia will be arrested, the IGP said they will take action as per investigation.
The BNP-led alliance has called a countrywide 72-hour hartal from tomorrow defying pleas of guardians and the government to withdraw the blockade and hartal for SSC examinations.
The 20-party alliance is observing the indefinite blockade since January 5 protesting the government restriction on holding a rally of the alliance marking January 5 election anniversary terming the day “democracy Killing day”.
