7 bullet-hit by robbers in Ctg


At least 10 people were injured, seven with bullets, by robbers at village Imam Nagar in Boalkhali upazila in Chittagong early Monday.

Armed bandits, numbering 25 to 30, stormed into the houses of Mohammad Eshak and Jamir Ahmed of the village at around 3:45am and looted valuables, including seven tolas of gold ornaments and three mobile phone sets, worth around Tk 3.5 lakh.

They also beat up Mohammad Eshak, 55, Fazlul Haque, 21, and Khurshida Begum, 24, as they tried to resist the gang, said local Union Parishad (UP) member Mrinal Kanti Biswas.

Hearing screams of the family members, the villagers rushed to the spot and chased the robbers. Sensing danger, the bandits opened fire on them, leaving seven villagers injured.

The bullet-injured people -- Joynal Abedin, 35, Manirul Huda, 18, Rokon Mian, 22, Shamsul Alam, 45, Morshed Alam, 36, Mostafa Kamal, 21, and Joynal Abedin, 34, -- were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Officer in-Charge Abdul Malek Mian of Boalkhali Police Station said they picked one suspected person from the Kalurghat Bridge area at around 7:00am for quizzing. A case was filed in this connection.
