A local Jubo League leader was killed by unknown assailants in Gabtoli upazila headquarters of Bogra Thursday afternoon.The dead was identified as Tariqul Islam Tarique, Jubo League president of Gabtoli poura unit.
Witnesses said a gang attacked Tarique with sharp weapons near the local branch of Sonali Bank, leaving him critically injured.
He died on way to hospital, reports our Bogra correspondent.
The supporters of Tarique ransacked the house of one Sumon bringing allegation that he (Sumon) was involved in the killing following a previous enmity with the victim.
They also set fire to Sumon’s house, which later spread to the local branch of Grameen Bank. The blaze was doused later.
A chase and counter chase were taken place between the law enforcers and protestors when police rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control.
The supporters also set ablaze a jute godown during the incident.
