Last tributes to Subir Chowdhury
The body of Subir Chowdhury, director of Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts and one of the trustees of Bengal Foundation, will arrive today (July 4) at 12pm at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka. Artists, writers, friends, well-wishers and cultural aficionados will their last tributes to Subir Chowdhury at his work place Bengal Shilpalaya in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. The body will be kept there from 3pm to 6pm today.
His body will be kept at the Central Shaheed Minar from 11am to 12:45pm and at the faculty of Fine Art (FFA), University of Dhaka from 1am to 2pm. Artists, writers, friends, well-wishers and cultural enthusiasts will pay their last tributes to the deceased at two venues. Later, his last rites will be carried out at Sabujbag crematorium at 3pm.
A memorial programme will be held at Bengal Shilpalaya at 4pm on July 11 followed by a shraddha to be held at 8am on the following day.
Subir Chowdhury, born on 22 February, 1953 in Jamalpur, died on 30 June in Sydney, Australia. When he was a school student, Subir was arrested for his involvement in anti Ayub movement in 1960s. He played a role in organising Liberation War with maintaining liaison with communist party office, Calcutta (now Kolkata), India. A graduate from FFA, Subir Chowdhury started his career at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
