Language movement veteran Matin hospitalised
Language movement veteran Abdul Matin was admitted to a hospital in the capital as he fell sick today.
"He was sitting in his room. Around 1:00pm, he suddenly felt sick. He lost his consciousness in a while," his wife Gulbadannessa Monika told The Daily Star this evening.
Matin was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors conducted CT Scan and other necessary diagnoses immediately, Monika said.
"Later, he was shifted to City Hospital at Mohammadpur. Here, the doctors are conducting necessary examinations. He will be kept at ICU (Intensive Care Unit) after the examinations," she said.
Matin underwent open heart surgery in 1997. He has been sufferings from multiple ailments since then, Monika said.
The around 88-year-old played a significant role in language movement in 1952.
The Dhaka University in 2008 conferred honorary doctor of law degree to him for his role in the language movement.
