Kotan coming today
Former Bangladesh coach George Kotan will arrive in Dhaka in the early hours of today to take the charge of Abahani for the upcoming football season.
The 68-year-old Austrian, who guided the Bangladesh national team to a successful campaign in the 2003 SAFF Championship during his two-year tenure before returning to Bangladesh for a barrent stint with Muktijoddha Sangsad KC, will waste no time by joining the team's training camp in the evening.
The four-time professional league champions Abahani are hoping to revive their fortunes by bringing the veteran coach, after two barren seasons under two Iranian coaches --Ardeshir Pournimat Vodehi and Ali Akbar Pormoslemi.
“(George) Kotan will join the club's training camp tomorrow (Monday) after arriving here in the morning,” Abahani's football manager Satyajit Dus Rupu told reporters yesterday.
“Due to his successful past and his knowledge about the culture of Bangladesh football, we considered him as the head coach of Abahani,” added Rupu.
Rupu also informed that Kotan has picked three Hungarian players, who would arrive in the first week of January and will go through a trial for final selection.
The 68-year-old Austrian coach will watch the friendly match between defending Premier League champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and K-league outfit Busan I'park on December 27 for a first-hand impression about the current standard of club football in Bangladesh.
