Khaleda threatens tougher movement
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today threatened to launch a tougher movement if the government does not scrap the judge impeachment bill.
“We have observed only a one-day nationwide hartal in protest against the judge impeachment bill. Please scrap the bill. Otherwise we will launch all necessary programmes against it,” Khaleda warned.
She said, “Judges are usually helpless. Their hands are being tied by enacting such laws.”
The BNP chief was addressing a rally at Niaz Mohammad High School ground in the district headquarters this evening with Brahmanbaria BNP President Shafiqul Islam in the chair.
The former prime minister also warned that she would announce a fresh programme after the Eid-ul-Azha and called upon people from all walks of life to ensure their participation to make the anti-government movement a success.
She lambasted Awami League leaders for threatening to send her to jail for launching movement and said the ruling party men should think their own consequences.
“I am not afraid of jail but you (AL men) should prepare your own passports and visas before sending me to prison. Otherwise, people will never allow you to leave the country,” she added.
About the country’s prevailing political situation, she said the overall condition is not good at all as people are being subjected to killing, abduction and enforced disappearance in the hands of ruling party men as well as law enforcement agencies.
Referring to the Narayanganj seven-murder, she reiterated her call for disbanding Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).
The rally was organised by the local BNP-led 20-party alliance to drum up public support in favour of its demand for holding a fresh election under a non-party administration.
The BNP chief reached Brahmanbaria Circuit House at 3:35pm,
She left her Gulshan residence in Dhaka for Brahmanbaria at noon. She was accompanied by BNP Vice-chairman Selima Rahman.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dhaka city BNP Convener Mirza Abbas and Member Secretary Habib-un-Nabi Khan, among others, accompanied the BNP chief.
Earlier on May 28 and June 22, Khaleda has visited Munshiganj and Joypurhat and attended rallies there.
Khaleda is scheduled to visit in Jamalpur on September 27 to raise public support in favour of her party’s anti-government movement.
