Khaleda once again talks about 'movement in time'
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia last night said BNP must wage an anti-government movement at the right time as the government failed to meet the opposition's demand in the last 10 months on holding a fresh and inclusive national election under a caretaker administration.
“We had stopped our movement after the January 5 election because we wanted a peaceful solution through dialogue...but the government thinks there is no need to hold the election as BNP is not waging movement,” she said.
She was addressing a views-exchange meeting at her Gulshan office with the BNP-backed upazila chairmen and vice-chairmen elected from Rajshahi division.
Khaleda said now they would have to go for a fresh movement. “We will have to go to the people...spread our mass campaign...what the country's situation is and what the government is doing.”
She called upon leaders and activists to prepare for the movement taking people with them.
“You will have to respond when I call for the movement aimed at restoration of democracy and stopping killings, forced disappearances and corruption,” the former premier said, adding that she would announce the movement at a proper time.
“Inshallah, we will dethrone the government and save people from the hands of the oppressive administration.”
She also said there was no country in the world like Bangladesh -- the way the government, cabinet and parliament were formed illegally. “But the situation cannot continue in this way anymore.”
Pointing to corruption, oppression, killings and abductions allegedly being carried out by the present government, she said the administration was worse than the Pakistani occupation army and former autocratic ruler HM Ershad.
