BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today sent an Eid greeting card to Sheikh Hasina addressing her as Awami League president, not prime minister.
On behalf of Khaleda, a two-member team led by BNP’s assistant office secretary Abdul Latif Jony delivered the card to the AL chief’s political office at Dhanmondi.
Sources at Hasina’s office confirmed The Daily Star that they got a greeting card from Khaleda in which Hasina was addressed as AL president.
The two arch- rivals have not come face-to-face for a long time. On October 26 last year, Hasina phoned Khaleda for the last time to invite her to talks at Gono Bhaban. But the initiative failed as the two leaders did not budge an inch from their own positions to hold the dialogue.
Insiders in BNP told The Daily Star that Khaleda as well as BNP believe that Hasina has been leading an “illegal government” which was originated from "so-called" January 5 polls. So, it is not possible for them to mention Hasina as the prime minister, said the leaders.
