Khaleda denies meeting govt officials
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today denied that any government officials met her saying intelligence agencies have provided the premier with wrong information as her time is running out.
“You intelligence officials have provided you (Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina) with false information about the meeting as your time is about to end,” she said while addressing a convention of former and incumbent leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of BNP, at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka.
“I was prime minister and also the leader of the opposition. So, what’s wrong if they (government servants) meet me?” she posed the question adding: “They did not meet me.”
Pointing to the PM’s yesterday’s comment’s about BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman, Khaleda said, “You should control you own tongue first, then advise others to follow.”
On Wednesday, Prime Minister warned Tarique Rahman for his disparaging remarks about Bangabandhu and advised BNP chief Khaleda Zia to control her son.
"I would like to tell the BNP chief, ask your spoiled son to hold his tongue," the prime minister said while addressing a discussion at Bangladesh Krishibid Institution
“We speak truth and on the basis of facts,” Khaleda Zia added.
Khaleda Zia’s elder son Tarique Rahman stated that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman banned the Awami League himself, the act makes the 1971 leader a “bigger Razakar.”
“Awami League claims that their party is the party of Liberation War. But, Sheikh Mujib banned Awami League himself. So, that makes Mujib a bigger Razakar,” he said.
“Sheikh Mujib never fought for the liberation of Bangladesh, he fought for the autonomy of East Pakistan. That is why he did not fight the war when he had the scope.”
The elder son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was speaking at a discussion arranged by BNP’s UK unit in East London’s The Atrium on Wednesday in regard to the nation’s 44th Victory Day.
Urging the judges to remain on the path of truth and democracy while delivering judgments, Khaleda Zia said, "Otherwise, you have to face harsher punishment than the death penalty.”
She called upon the policemen not to open fire on opposition men any more. “If any more shot is fired, people are ready to face,” the BNP chief warned.
Citing natural disaster in the world’s largest mangrove forest, Khaleda said the government has destroyed the forests. “The government is doing so in a planned way.”
She called upon her party men to stay prepared for taking the streets to ensure an inclusive election under a non-party administration after ousting the “illegal and repressive” government.
Over 50 public servants attended the meeting at Khaleda's Gulshan office on Thursday, sources said.
They included a joint secretary, three deputy secretaries and a senior assistant secretary -- all officers on special duty (OSD) -- and some personal officers (PO) and administrative officers (AO).
Secretariat sources said a few former secretaries, including an ex-cabinet secretary, who are under the government's watch, led the group.
Back in 2006, some 15 serving public officials who were known to be close to the BNP attended a secret meeting at an office of former energy adviser Mahmudur Rahman on the night of November 24, triggering a huge uproar.
She said Jatiya Party must share the responsibility of government’s all misdeeds including killings and forced disappearances as JP is a part of the administration.
