Kaleidoscope of colours
Kazi Shatash Parvin Munmun, fashion designer and owner of Munmun's Boutique House, was the notable emcee at the concluding ceremony of a three-day Boishakhi mela on Wednesday. Her performance was impeccable as was her recitation “Banglar Mukh Ami Dekhiyachhi”, a popular patriotic poem of Jibananda Das. The venue was the Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Chittagong.
Her recitation was received raptly by the audience followed by her recitation of “Keu Kotha Rakheni”, a poem by Sunil Gangopadhyay.
The audience also enjoyed the performance of other artistes at the event.
With the theme “Kholo Dwar Khol Laglo Je Dol”, Designers' Forum -- an organisation of fashion designers in Chittagong, organised the fair to welcome the Bangla New Year 1421.
The festival comprised an exhibition of outfits designed by 16 fashion houses, a roundtable on “Fashion of Days to Come: Problems and Prospects”, a fashion show, music, recitation and dance.
At the concluding ceremony, Dew Dreams, a musical troupe, performed diverse threads of music.
Swapan Barua and Sangita Barua also gave a dance performance. This was followed by the eagerly-awaited fashion show.
At the concluding ceremony, Faruk-e-Azam Bir Pratik, one of the pioneers of fashion design in Chittagong, was accorded honours by the Designers' Forum for his contributions in promoting the art of fashion design in Chittagong.
Artiste Chandrashekhar Saha, Seikh Saifur Rahman and beautician Kaniz Almas Khan participated in a roundtable moderated by poet Abul Momen, added artiste Ahmed Newaz, who heads Designers' Forum.
