Judicial probe demanded
Speakers at a discussion yesterday demanded a judicial probe into the attack on former economics professor of Dhaka University Mahbubullah on the Supreme Court premises two days ago.
"It is unfortunate and acceptable that miscreants can assault a professor like Mahbubullah in Supreme Court area. It is a shame for the government and state," said Bikalpadhara president Prof AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.
Demanding security of all professionals, he said, "After the incident we cannot remain mum and stay at home. People from every sector should protest this kind of incident together."
Shato Nagorik Jatiya Committee organised the discussion at Jatiya Press Club in the capital, protesting the attack. Unidentified persons assaulted the pro-BNP teacher on Saturday.
BNP chairperson's adviser Osman Faruk said the attack was not isolated. It is another example of the government's oppression on opposition men, he said.
Former justice Abdur Rouf, acting convener of Sammillito Peshajibi Parishad Ruhul Amin Gazi, and adviser to the BNP chairperson Shawkat Mahmood also spoke.
