A Dhaka Court today indicted Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal president Syed Motzzem Hossain Alal and 57 others in a case filed for torching vehicles and blasting bombs in December 2012.
All the accused , now on bail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Metropolitan Magistrate Tareq Mainul Islam Bhuiyan read out the charges to them.
The court fixed September 18 to start trial of the case.
According to the case statement, a group of 59 including Alal brought out a procession on December 18, 2012 in front of the Police Hospital in the city’s Shantinagar area and marched towards their Nayapaltan central office.
During the procession, they vandalised and torched vehicles and hurled crude bombs targeting the law enforcers.
Following the incident, a case was lodged with the Paltan Police Station on the same day against 59 people by name and 5,000 to 6,000 unknown BNP leaders and activists.
