JMB men snatching, 'shootout' alarming: BNP
The BNP has termed 'very alarming' the snatching of condemned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militants and subsequent killing of the recaptured one -- Hafez Mahmud alias Rakib -- in alleged shootout.
"The killing of the recaptured one in so-called shootout has given rise to question," BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said after placing wreaths at the grave of Ziaur Rahman in the capital.
Terming it ‘mysterious’, he said it is an attempt to hide the whole incident.
Talking to journalists at the party founder's grave following release of a Chittagong-based BNP leader, Fakhrul said the snatching of the three JMB militants proves there was no adequate security.
“The government failed to take security measures needed for such convicts…it failed totally in it,” said the BNP leader.
A police constable was killed as a group of over 10/15 masked men opened fire at a prison van carrying three convicted JMB men, hurled crude bombs and snatched away the three at Signboard point of Aminabari area in Trishal, Mymensingh yesterday.
The attack on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway took place when the van carrying the three was going to Mymensingh to produce them before a court in a sedition case.
