Jhut trader killed in Dhaka, wife held
Masked assailants stabbed dead a businessman in Mirpur area of Dhaka in the wee hours of today.
The deceased was Gias Uddin, 35, a jhut trader dealing with garments’ waste and a resident of block-C in Jhutpatti area of Mirpur-10, according to police.
Gias’ wife whose name could not be known immediately was detained over suspected involvement in the murder.
Three to four masked men stormed into his house and demanded money from him last night, Imanur Hossain, a sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station, told The Daily Star.
“The attackers beat up Gias and stabbed him afterwards,” he said. “Gias was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed around 12:30am.”
Gias had two stab injuries in his head and body, said Haider Ali, in-charge of DMCH police camp.
Extortion, mugging or previous enmity might have been the reason behind the killing, SI Imanur said.
