Jewellers give 72hrs ultimatum to get him back
Bangladesh Jewellers' Association, Chittagong yesterday urged the prime minister and home minister to take initiatives to rescue jewellery trader Mridul Kumar Chowdhury, who was picked up allegedly by men claiming to be plainclothes Rab personnel from outside his house in the port city Tuesday.
The association leaders gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the administration to rescue the trader unhurt; otherwise they will go for a tough programme. They raised the demands at a press conference organised by the association at Chittagong Press Club. The traders also announced to hold a human chain today in the city's KC Dey Road area.
Meanwhile, police said no headway had been made in the abduction case filed with Kotwali Police Station against unidentified persons.
Shimul Chowdhury, the victim's brother, claimed seven to eight men in plain clothes, introducing themselves as Rab personnel, picked up Mridul at gunpoint around 10:40am from in front of his house in the city's Hazari Lane area. Rab, however, denied their involvement in the incident.
