Jessore AL leader shot dead
A local leader of ruling Awami League was shot dead by unknown miscreants in Abhaybnagar upazila of Jessore this morning.
The deceased, Mollah Waliar Rahman, 62, was AL joint general secretary of Abhaybnagar upazila unit and also councillor of ward No. 7 of Naoapara municipality.
Waliar, also a journalist of Khulna-based daily Janmabhumi, came under the attack on Naoapara bypass road around 6:00am when he went out of his Goakhola house for taking a morning walk, our Jessore correspondent reports quoting the officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station.
Armed goons numbering five to six persons fired two bullets on Waliar at a close range, said Chhoyer Uddin, the OC said.
The bullet-hit AL leader was first taken to the local upazila health complex where doctors referred him to Khulna 250-bed Medical College and Hospital. He died on way to the hospital later.
The motive behind the murder could not be known immediately, the police officer said adding they are now looking into the matter.
