Jamaat calls hartal for Wednesday, Thursday
Aggrieved by today's war crimes verdict on Jamaat-e-Islami leader ATM Azharul Islam, the party has called countrywide daylong hartal (shutdown) for Wednesday and Thursday.
Jamaat will observe the strike from 6:00am to 5:30pm on Wednesday and Thursday protesting “the government’s conspiracy to kill Azharul”, said a party press release.
They also demanded immediate release of all the party leaders and activists, who are in police custody in war crimes and different other cases, the release said.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 sentenced Jamaat’s assistant secretary general to death for his crimes against humanity during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
