Momtaz Sultana Lucy, wife of Mahbubur Rahman Sujan who died allegedly of torture in police custody, expressed her dissatisfaction with the investigation yesterday.

Talking to The Daily Star, she alleged that Sub-Inspector Jahidur Rahman Khan of Mirpur Police Station, the prime accused, refused to confess to his involvement in the murder on the investigators' suggestion.

She also expressed her discontent with Officer-in-Charge of the police station Salahuddin Khan, another accused in the case, still remaining in his post and continuing with his duties.

Lucy made the remarks after Jahid refused to confess before a magistrate, although earlier, DB Inspector Nibaron Chandra Barman, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted documents to the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Nuru Miah saying Jahid was ready to confess.

However, on Thursday, police informer Nasim Sheikh confessed to another magistrate that he was present when the SI tortured Sujan at the victim's residence, then in the police van, and later at the police station.

In his statement, Nasim said on July 13 a team of about seven to eight people, including five cops and himself, went to Sujan's residence and picked him up.

SI Jahid was arrested on July 16 following an autopsy report, which revealed that Sujan had died of torture. Law enforcers nabbed Nasim the same day after examining CCTV footage of the police station.

The SI was then placed on 14 days of remand in four phases.

On July 20, Lucy filed a murder case with a Dhaka court accusing Salahuddin, Jahid and eight others.
