Investigation against ex-Jamaat MP starts
A one member team of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) investigated the crimes against humanity committed by Jamaat-e-islamileader and former lawmaker of Gaibandha-1 constituency Abdul Aziz.
Assistant Police Superintendent ZM Altafur Rahman started investigation against the former Jamaat lawmaker on November 20 and concluded on November 22.
He along with a cameraman went to different areas in Sundarganj upazila, talked to local people and collected evidence of war crimes committed by Aziz.
Mozammel Huq, officer-in-charge of Sundarganj Police Station, said the ICT investigation team left Gaibandha yesterday.
Azizur Rahman Sarker, son of late Alamuddin of Santiram village filed a case with Sundarganj Police Station on September 28, 2009 (case No 50/316), accusing former lawmaker Aziz and some others of killing his elder brother on November 10, 1971.
In the case statement, he alleged that the accused picked up his brother Bayes Uddin from their house at Santiram village on the day. They took him to Sundarganj army camp and tortured him to death.
Another murder case was filed against Aziz with the police station on September 28, 2009 (case No 51/317) by Anisur Rahman of Dharmapur village in the upazila.
In the case, the plaintiff' stated that Aziz and his men killed his father Akbar Ali in November 1971. Both the cases were later transferred to ICT for trial.
