Intruders hack father, son in capital
Armed assailants forced into the residence of a retired government employee and hacked him and his son in the capital's Sabujbagh yesterday.
The injured Abul Hossain, 67, a former assistant director of Board of Investment Bangladesh, and his son Jahid Hossain, 45, are undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.
Some seven to eight assailants first took the gatekeeper hostage at gunpoint and forcibly entered the flat on the second floor of their four-storey building at Baganbari around 5:00am, the father told The Daily Star.
They asked for valuables including gold ornaments and cash,” said Abul, who opened the door, adding his wife and a domestic help were at the flat at that time.
Some of the assailants also latched the doors of other flats from outside so that nobody can come out for help.
The assailants attacked with machetes and large knives, leaving Abul with wounds on his right shoulder and left wrist while his son, who came hearing his father's scream, on the face and both legs.
They left the flat soon without taking anything as locals were gathering there hearing their screams,” said the son.
The victims suspected that the attack came as a consequence of robbery but police said they did not loot anything.
Police visited the spot while an investigation is underway to unearth the motive behind the attacks, said Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sabujbagh Police Station.
