Three Bangladeshis were beaten to death allegedly by locals in India's Tripura state along Bulla border of Habiganj early yesterday.
The dead are Anwar Ali, 32, Sundar Ali, 37, and Siddique Ali, 60, under Gazipur union of Chunarughat upazila.
Quoting the BSF, Lt Col Saif Uddin Kawsar, commanding officer of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 14 Battalion in Sreemangal, said five Bangladeshi nationals entered Gouranga tilla in Tripura after crossing the border along Chunarughat at midnight.
Locals of the area chased them, suspecting them as cattle lifters. The locals caught the three and beat them to death on the spot. The rest managed to escape, he added.
A battalion commander-level flag meeting between the BGB and the BSF was held at the border yesterday. At the meeting, the BSF officials assured the BGB of handing over the bodies after conducting autopsies, the BGB official said.
