India seals borders with Bangladesh after blast
India today sounded a high alert across the West Bengal and sealed its borders with Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan in the wake of the October 2 grenade explosion at a house in Burdwan district in which a terrorist hand is suspected.
"All police stations in the state have been asked to maintain a strict vigil against any subversive activity or attempt at sabotage," Indian Director General of Police GMP Reddy said while talking to reporters after a meeting at the state secretariat.
Asked if the government was suspecting involvement of any terrorist outfit in the blast, Reddy said "we are not ruling out any possibility. Everything is being looked into."
Meanwhile, one more man has been arrested in connection with the blast, taking the number of arrests to three so far, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
Hafez Mollah alias Hasan, who was detained by the CID from his house at Khar Duttapa in Purbostholi yesterday, was formally shown arrested today.
Two suspected militants Shakil Ahmed and Sovan Mandal were killed and another Hasan Saheb was injured in the explosion.
Two women--Rajira Bibi alias Rumi hailing Nadia district of West Bengal, and Amina Bibi hailing from Lalbagh in Murshidabad -- were arrested yesterday following the blast in which involvement of terror outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkatul Jihad Islami (HuJI) is being suspected.
Rajira Bibi is the widow of Shakil while Amina Bibi is the wife of injured Hasan who is under treatment at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, Burdwan Superintendent of Police SMH Mirza said.
The police are on the lookout for one Abul Kalam, a resident of Mangalkote area of the district.
The investigators are on his trail after they found seven calls made to him from a mobile phone immediately after the blast. The mobile phone from which the calls were made was seized by the police from the house after the explosion.
Police seized grenades, chemicals used in making explosives, a book on how to trigger explosion, some jihadi literature, a video on jihadi training and a map of important locations in Burdwan district from the house.
A large number of watch dials, SIM cards and other tools required to make improvised explosive devices were also seized from the house, Mirza said.
The suspected militants had rented the house a few months back and the police had also questioned the house owner, Hasan Chowdhury, stated to be a local Trinamool Congress party leader.
A high-level composite task force has been formed by the West Bengal government to investigate the matter.
