Imran-led faction declares 3-day programme
A Gonojagoron Mancha faction today announced a three-day programme to press home its different demands including filing review petition against the Supreme Court verdict on Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
Speaking at a protest rally in Shahbagh, Imran H Sarker, spokesperson of the faction, this evening said they will arrange a mass procession towards the law ministry from Shahbagh Projonmo Chattar on October 19.
The faction will also hold a two-day national convention on November 14-15 in the capital, he added.
The other demands include scrapping the president’s clemency power and trying Jamaat-e-Islami as an organisation accused of war crimes.
Earlier on September 17, the SC commuted the death penalty of Sayedee and said he will be in prison until his death for crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
The International Crimes Tribunal-1 on February 28 last year handed down the death penalty of the Jamaat leader on charges of killing, abduction, torture, rape and forced religious conversion.
The verdict has frustrated family members of the victims, justice seekers and war crimes trial campaigners.
