Improving law & order main target now: Tofail
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today said the first priority of the present government is to improve the law and order situation further in the wake of violence unleashed by BNP-Jamaat in the last few months over the 10th parliamentary elections.
“Our first duty is to further improve the law and order situation,” the newly-appointed minister said.
He was talking to reporters after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet colleagues laid wreaths at the Mazar of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman marking her assumption of office for the third time.
Tofail, also the advisory council member of Awami League, said the newly inducted ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers would discharge their duties with honesty and integrity.
“The immediate past government has unleashed massive uplift activities in the last five years in various fields, but still there’re many development works waiting to be accomplished and sincere attempts would be there to fulfill those,” he added.
The veteran politician noted that the then main opposition BNP did not pay heed to the government’s repeated calls for holding dialogue, rather they tried to create chaos and anarchy in the country.
“Now, they (BNP) have realised that such violent acts are not good for anyone, so they have postponed their announced programmes,” he added.
Tofail, however, expressed his hope to reach a consensus through a dialogue for the sake of the country.
