ICT seeks Forkan's probe progress report by Aug 14
A tribunal in Dhaka today asked the prosecution to submit before it by August 14 a progress report on investigation in a war crimes case filed against Forkan Mallik.
Forkan, 62, was a Razakar commander in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali district during the Liberation War in 1971, according to the case statement.
The three-judge panel of International Crimes Tribunal-2 led by its Chairman Justice Obaidul Hassan asked for the progress report after accepting a petition submitted by the prosecution on June 30.
In the petition, the prosecution sought tribunal’s order showing Forkan arrested for his crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
After passing the order, the tribunal ordered to send Forkan into the jail.
The jail authorities today produced him before the tribunal in compliance with a tribunal order.
On June 25, Detective Branch of police arrested Forkan from Rupatali Bus Stand area of Barisal following an arrest warrant issued against him for his alleged involvement in war crimes.
One Abdul Hamid of Shoulabunia of Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali filed the case on July 21, 2009 against Forkan.
In the case, the complainant alleged that Forkan had abetted Pakistani occupation forces to kill president of Subidkhali Awami League Abdul Qader Jamaddar, AL activist Yazuddin Khalifa, Dr Debendranath and his wife and some minority people in the area during the Liberation War.
After police investigation, the case was sent to Patuakhali District and Sessions Judge's Court which issued the warrant against Forkan last year. After his arrest, the same court ordered to send him to jail.
