Reverse Swing

Wasim Akram

It was a big game for Bangladesh as lot depended on this to qualify for the next round, and as such, lots of pressure was on the home team, especially because of losing to Afghanistan in the Asia Cup.
The Tigers captain won the toss and elected field on a wicket which was not the best for T20 as it was turning and had bounce with the new ball. Bangladesh had a well planned out game and right from the word go, Mushfiqur Rahim and his team was on the top of the game after Mashrafe Bin Mortaza drew the first blood in the very first ball removing the opener.
Afghan team had a second wicket partnership of 36 runs and after that it was all downhill as they played silly shots and threw the wickets. Player-of-the-match Shakib bowled brilliantly taking three wickets for 8 runs and was well supported by other spinners Razzak and Mahmudullah, who also bowled very well exploiting the weakness of opposition's inability of playing spin bowling.
Bangladesh team looked far superior in all departments, their body language showed that they were fully in the game which lifted the fielding, giving full support to the bowlers, taking some great catches and saving boundaries.
This will give a lot of confidence to the home team and the supporters who came down to support them were delighted. The next game is against Nepal and Hong Kong which they should win but they should not take them lightly to go to the Super 10s. In my opinion Bangladesh is very capable of upsetting more fancied teams in the next round.
Sunday's win is a perfect beginning to the World T20 2014 for the host country and a lot more is on its way for rejoicing.
