Huge Yaba haul in Ctg
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday seized around 2.10 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets and Tk 19 lakh in cash in Chittagong city.
Five persons, including the ringleader of a Yaba smuggling group, were picked up during the raids, said Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of legal and media wing of Rab, at a press briefing at the Rab headquarters in Uttara of the capital.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-7 conducted a raid on Amin Contractor Road in the port city and detained ringleader Zahidul Islam alias Alo and his associate Jasim Uddin Rana.
They also recovered 20,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, a pistol and a private car, said the Rab official.
Commander Khan said the duo was waiting in the area to sell the contraband item to clients.
On information provided by the two, the elite force raided several houses in the area and recovered 190, 314 pieces of Yaba tablets, the cash, 37 mobile phones, three cameras and three laptops.
Three others -- Md Abdul Malek Russel, Md Shahed Md Javed and Md Zakir -- were picked up during the drives, he said.
In Gazipur, Rab officials conducted a drive at a residence in Tongi and recovered 5,000 pieces of Yaba tablets.
Khan said the detainees smuggled the pills from Myanmar and then sold those to clients in the country.
