Hizb-ut Tawhid men hold programme at FF office
Three alleged operatives of Islamist outfit Hizb-ut Tawhid were arrested from Natore Muktijoddha Sangsad premises yesterday.
The arrestees are, Abdus Sobur Khan, 25, son of Taslim Uddin of Kalikapur village, Jahangir Alam, 26, son of Altaf Uddin, of Lotabaria village in Baraigram upazila of the district, and Nuhu Munshi, 27, son of Nawshad Ali, of Jadabpur village in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenidah.
Superintendent of Police in Natore Basudeb Banik said, being informed, a team of the law enforcers arrested the Hizb-ut Tawhid men while they were showing a documentary on the recent activities of different Islamist outfits at the auditorium of the district Muktijoddha Sangshad premises around 11:00am.
Police also seized several books on jihad (Islamic uprising), CDs and a huge number of leaflets, sound boxes, loudspeakers and a projector from their possessions, the SP said.
Hizb-ut Tawhid is a listed militant organisation, the SP further said.
Mahmudunnabi Renu, a freedom fighter of Bagatipara, said they were invited to attend a function over Natore free day. “I was very shocked to see that a militant outfit got permission to hold their programme on the spot meant for the freedom fighters”, he said.
Contacted, Abdur Rauf, commander of the Sangsad, said the Hizb-ut Tawhid men were permitted to hold the function mistakenly as the Muktijoddha official concerned was not aware about their identity and programme schedule.
