Hasina orders completing AL grassroots councils
Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina today directed party high-ups to complete holding councils of all grassroots units immediately to strengthen the party.
She gave the directive at an unscheduled meeting with the senior party leaders at her political office in Dhanmondi. The AL chief made a surprise visit there to learn about the party’s organisational activities.
AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam who welcomed Hasina at the office briefed reporters later.
“She has inquired about how many grassroots councils have so far been completed and how many have still been left and directed us to complete holding councils immediately,” Ashraf quoted the premier as saying at the meeting.
He said the party chief directed them to hold central AL council in time after completing all grassroots councils. The ruling party’s last council was held on December 29, 2012 for a three-year term.
About councils in Dhaka Metropolitan unit, Ashraf said they have divided the city AL into two units and would form new committees soon.
He said a meeting of the party’s national committee would be held soon to approve the party budget.
Replying to a query, he said the verdicts in the war crimes cases would be executed in time. There should not be any doubt over the execution of the verdicts, he added.
Senior AL leaders including Matia Chowdhury, Nooh-ul-Alam Lenin, Shahara Khatun, and Mahbubul Alam Hanif, HT Imam, and Mrinal Kanti Das, among others, were present.
