Hartal in Sylhet division Thursday
The BNP-led 20-party alliance has called a dawn-to-dusk hartal (shutdown) in Sylhet division for Thursday protesting an arson case filed against its chief Khaleda Zia in Comilla.
Nasim Hossain, a member of the Sylhet city unit committee, this afternoon told our local correspondent that they will enforce the daylong shutdown across the division the day after tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Sunamganj unit of the alliance separately declared to enforce the shutdown in the district on Thursday on the same issue.
Nasiruddin Chowdhury, convener of the 20-party combine, informed their decision to our Moulvibazar correspondent this afternoon.
In a separate development, the alliance has called a 48-hour hartal in Bogra district from tomorrow on the same grounds.
Saiful Islam, convener of the district unit alliance, announced the hartal at Althafunnisa ground after attending gayebana janaza of Khaleda’s younger son Arafat Rahman Koko.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 31 other BNP-Jamaat leaders were sued on Sunday night for setting fire to a covered van in Chauddagram upazila of Comilla.
In another development, Jamaat-e-Islami, a key ally of the alliance, has called a daylong hartal in Rajshahi for tomorrow protesting arrest of its Charghat upazila amir Nazmul Haque.
Nazmul was arrested for carrying arson attack on a truck that left its trucker and helper injured.
