Hartal begins peacefully in Rajshahi, Rangpur divs
Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions are passing through peaceful spells of 48-hour hartals (shutdown) today morning amid a nonstop blockade of the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
In Rajshahi and Rangpur, the hartals were called yesterday protesting the arrest of local leaders of BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami. Bogra, a district inside Rajshahi division, called a separate hartal protesting the implication of the party chief Khaleda Zia with an arson case.
No untoward incident was reported from Rajshahi division until 10:00am this morning during the first day of a 48-hour hartal sponsored by the Jamaat, our local correspondent reports.
Tomorrow, the division will see another spell of daylong hartal sponsored by the BNP over the same issue and also the implication of party chief in the arson case.
Similarly, the 48-hour hartal in Rangpur division, sponsored by the Jamaat, was also underway without any major untoward incident reported this morning, our local correspondent reports.
