'Gunfight' kills 2 after 'attack on Rab' in Dhaka
Two youths were killed in a 'gunfight' with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) that began after a team of the elite force "came under petrol bomb attack" in Jatrabari area of Dhaka early today.
Identities of the deceased, aged between 28 and 35, could not be ascertained.
The youths hurled petrol bombs targeting a vehicle of patrolling Rab in Katherpul area of Matuail around 2:30am, said Major Rumman Mahmud, deputy director of Rab's media wing.
"They also fired shots at the Rab members. The members of the elite force were compelled to fire back," the Rab official said.
Later, the Rab members found the two youths lying bullet-wounded and took them to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead, he said.
The elite force members also found some firearms on the spot.
MAN SHOT WHILE 'BLASTING CRUDE BOMBS'
Police claimed they shot a man, Mohammad Kawsar, who was fleeing after blasting crude bombs at Shahjahanpur's Amtoli area of Dhaka around 5:00am.
Md Mostafa, a sub-inspector of Shahjahanpur police, said cops put three rounds in both legs of the troublemaker while he was fleeing the spot after blasting some crude bombs.
The victim is currently attending treatments at Dhaka Medical College Hospital under custody.
