Govt aims for smooth supply of power
The government is preparing for smooth supply of electricity across the country as 8,100 megawatt of power will be required during the irrigation season.
An official of power, energy and mineral resources ministry said the ministry had given instruction to the authorities concerned to ensure smooth generation of electricity during the major crops yielding season.
"We are putting our best effort to ensure adequate power supply to the irrigation sector," the state minister for power, energy and mineral resources told BSS over phone yesterday.
A meeting to ensure adequate power supply during the irrigation season, Ramadan and the summer season was held at the ministry recently.
The meeting asked all concerned for taking special measure in this connection, according to a source at the ministry.
The source also said the government supplied 6,766MW against the maximum demand of 7,356MW electricity during the boro season and the rest 590MW was managed through load-shedding management.
According to the ministry's statistics, currently power generation capacity reached to 11,265MW, which is covering 68 percent of demand across the country.
Every year farmers demand adequate power supply for boro farming, as the grain formation is completely dependent on irrigation.
