Gonojagoron factions hold rallies at Shahbagh
Two factions of the Gonojagoron Mancha held separate rallies within a distance of five yards at Shahbagh in the capital.
The mancha activists one led by Imran H Sarker, and another led by Kamal Pasha Chowdhury organised the rallies under the same banner of "Gonojagoron Mancha" with their respective demands.
Addressing the rally, Imran said that the government has been intentionally prolonging the deliveries of the verdict of the war crimes trial.
"The chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 went on retirement as per law. The government was aware of his tenure, but a significant time had been wasted over appointing a new judge in the chairman post" Imran observed.
Referring to the comments made by some AL leaders that 'the necessity of the mancha has been over', Imran said they never leave the street until realization of their six point demand.
"Those who do not need Gonojagoron Mancha, favors Hefazat-e Islam and Jamaat", Imran alleged.
Imran also urged the government to take necessary measures to stop fresh communal attack centering the verdict of the Jamaat leader Sayedee.
Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation and other student bodies expressed solidarity to the rally.
Meanwhile, the Kamal-led faction held the rally demanding immediate arrest of those who attacked one Shishir Ahmed, an activist loyal to Kamal, on April 15.
Taking position before the National Museum, they also demanded withdrawal of the case filed by Imran-led supporters in connection with April 3 clash between the mancha activists.
FM Shahin, secretary of Gourab'71, Habibullah Mejbah and other pro Awami League activists attended the rally.
Earlier on April 4, police barred both of the groups from holding separate rallies at Shahbagh.
Shibli Noman, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Raman zone), said that they did not bar them for holding today's programme as they do not have any information of violence.
The factions came into light after Kamal "relieved” Imran H Sarkar of the spokesperson of Gonojagoron Mancha at a press conference recently.
