Gazipur rally will be held at any cost: Fakhrul
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today announced that the party’s prescheduled rally in Gazipur would be held tomorrow at any cost.
“We will hold the rally in Gazipur on Saturday at any cost. All preparations have already been finished to make the rally a success,” Fakhrul told media at a press conference held at the party chief Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office this morning.
“The government will be held responsible if our rally is hindered anyhow and the country’s prevailing situation will be jeopardised if it is done,” he warned.
“The government has unleashed its arrest spree against BNP men when we have started enforcing anti-government campaign,” he said adding that its consequences will not be good at all.
BNP FINDS GOVT AT FAULT FOR SUNDARBANS
BNP-formed probe team to investigate the oil spill in Sundarbans blamed the government’s inaction to take immediate measures to protect the world’s largest mangrove forest.
Inaction, lack of skill and non-cooperation among the government were the main causes for the disaster, said BNP Vice-Chairman Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, head of the BNP’s probe team.
He said forest department has filed a case claiming Tk 100 crore as compensation but the real loss would be worth around Tk 500 crore, he said while briefing the media at the briefing.
The government did neither initiate any rescue operation to remove the oil spill in the Shela river within six hours after the capsize, he said.
It caused huge loss in the ecological balance of Sundarbans, he blamed in the report.
