Death of Motorcyclist: Mob sets fire to police microbus after accident
An angry mob torched a police microbus after a bike-riding youth was killed in a road accident in Comilla's Balutupa area early yesterday.
The dead, Abu Taher, was from Shahpur village in Comilla Sadar upazila.
Witnesses said the accident occurred when the microbus was chasing the motorcycle. The microbus carrying four policemen from Comilla Sadar South Police Station crashed into a roadside tree.
Constables Mizan, Khorshed and Kalam were soon encircled by local people. However, Assistant Sub-Inspector Jahirul Islam managed to escape the scene.
Later, the three were handed over to Comilla Kotwali Model Police.
Locals alleged that the four policemen didn't try to rescue the youth.
Mamunur Rashid, chairman of Jagannathpur Union Parishad, alleged that police with the help of some locals often harass people in the bordering areas.
Abdullah Al Mamun, additional superintendent of Comilla police, said they recovered the body and sent it to Comilla Medical College for an autopsy.
Police would take legal action after investigating the incident, he added.
