Focus shifts on Asian Games
The Tigers will return home tomorrow morning after their dismal performance in the month-long tour of the West Indies. Mushfiqur Rahim and company's miserable showings in 2014 continued in the Caribbean trip where they lost both the ODI and Test series with a display of terrible cricket, while the lone T20 International was washed out.
The national players' next assignment is the Asian Games in Incheon of South Korea. Under the leadership of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, a strong Bangladesh side will leave here on September 26 for the Games to participate in the T20 competition from the quarterfinal stages.
Head coach Chandika Hathurusingha will also accompany the team but the Sri Lankan was yet to divulge any plans about any short camp for the tournament.
"I am not sure whether there will be any short camp. Definitely the coach will give his plan after returning home. It will be nice if there is a get-together before their departure but everybody has match practice," said captain Mashrafe yesterday.
Bangladesh will tour South Korea with the aim to retain gold in the event.
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who has been included in the team along with Rubel Hossain in place of Shohag Gazi and Mohammad Al-Amin Hossain respectively, will return to international cricket with this tournament.
Hathurusingha however already has put forward his practice plan for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe, who will arrive in Dhaka on October 17 for a one-and-a-half month tour of Bangladesh to play three Tests and five ODI matches against the home side.
According to the schedule, the Tigers' preparation camp will start on October 14 which will coincide with the start of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.
The coach also submitted his preparation plan for the World Cup, to be held in Australia and New Zealand in February and March next year, to the Bangladesh Cricket Board's cricket operations committee well in advance.
