First US-funded Shahid Minar inaugurated in New Jersey
The first fully funded Shahid Minar has been formally inaugurated in New Jersey, USA showing respect to the language movement martyrs of Bangladesh.
The chief guest of the ceremony held yesterday in Paterson was Md Shameem Ahsan, ndc consul general of Bangladesh in New York, along with Deputy Mayor of Paterson Pedro Rodriguez and Council Vice-President Ruby Cotton among others, said a foreign ministry press release.
Ahsan thanked Paterson city mayor, Passic County Board, project partners and the community leaders for their initiative and added that the building of this Shahid Minar would honor the Bangladesh community in the city and recognise the significance of other languages and the diverse cultures of the immigrant communities.
The speakers expressed that the completion of the event was a memorable event for both Bangladesh and USA, along with the global community with multiple language identities.
The Bangladesh community in Houston, Texas earlier built a Shahid Minar which was funded by the community.
