Family wants punishment of 'sloppy' Birdem docs
Family members and relatives of a man, whose death had sparked a protest at Birdem General Hospital, formed a human chain in front of National Press Club today demanding punishment to the doctors responsible for the death.
At the human chain, Farhana Nasreen, daughter of deceased Sirajul Islam, 57, claimed that her father met the tragic end of his life due to the negligence of some on-duty doctors at the hospital.
“Such incidents will increase at different hospitals of the country in future if the responsible doctors are not punished,” Nasrinn said.
The human chain was formed for an hour from 11:00am, which was also attended by Rafiqul Islam, president of Press Club Employees’ Union.
Earlier, at a press conference, Nasreen urged the prime minister to take steps to punish the doctors.
The patient's death raised an outcry among relatives, who allegedly assaulted some doctors on Sunday night, leading to a two-day work stoppage by the physicians from Tuesday.
The strike caused huge sufferings to hundreds of the patients.
