Export growth to continue: Tofail
Bangladesh's exports would continue to grow, although the country does not enjoy any duty benefit on export of garment items to the USA, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said yesterday.
The country's export volume was $30.19 billion in 2013-14, which is expected to grow to $33.2 billion in the next fiscal year, he said.
Bangladesh economically is well ahead among 48 least developed countries in the world, and the country has been termed as one of the 11 emerging nations, he said.
The minister spoke at the opening of Bangladesh International Trade and Export Fair, organised by Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry at Halishahar in the port city.
The exposition will continue for a month.
The government is working to develop Chittagong as a commercial hub of the country, he said.
The port city is the gateway of Bangladesh, and development of the country hinges on the connectivity development among Chittagong and other parts of the country, said Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, state minister for land.
