Expat Bangladeshi burnt by Indonesian woman dies
A Bangladeshi migrant worker, who was burnt by an Indonesian woman in Malaysia last week, died last afternoon.
The victim was identified as Md Raju, 32, a resident of Jhikorgachha upazila in Jessore, Begum Shahida Sultana, first secretary (Labour Wing) at Bangladesh High Commission, told The Daily Star over phone this afternoon.
The body was kept at Bukit Mertajam Hospital where Raju was undergoing treatment since February 4, she added.
His body may be flown to Dhaka by this week, the first secretary said.
Failing to get the repayment of debt, the Indonesian woman allegedly set fire to Raju while he was working at a construction site on February 4.
The incident happened near Kampung Baru market at Bukit Mertajam in George Town, the capital of Penang state.
Malaysian Criminal Investigation Department in Penang arrested the woman near the scene several hours after the incident. She was being interrogated for attempted murder.
A murder case will be lodged in this regard by the Malaysian police, Sultana added.
