Ex-Stamford VC held for attacking Shameem
A former vice-chancellor of Stamford University was placed on a six-day remand today hours after his arrest in a case filed for attempting to kill ex-BCL president AKM Enamul Haque Shameem.
Detectives picked up MA Hannan Feroz from his Dhanmondi residence last night, Abu Yusuf, assistant commissioner (media wing) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed The Daily Star.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasibul Haque granted the remand for Firoz after he was produced before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.
In the remand petition, DB Inspector Shamsuddin Saleh Ahmed Chowdhury, also the investigation officer of the case, told the court that Firoz provided money to a group who shot Shameem at Dhanmondi on June 19 in an attempt to kill him.
Feroz was arrested based on the confessional statement given by Rana Howlader, who was arrested in connection with the case on July 9, the IO told the court.
Shameem is a central leader of ruling Awami League and also founder of Board of Trustees of Stamford University.
